| Beverely Humphrey’s career has not been confined to the operatic stage, although that’s where it began - as Rosina in “The Barber of Serville” for Welsh National Opera - other roles include Carmen, Santuzza and Amneris. In this country, with her concert Repertoire, she has graced the Royal Festival Hall, the Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, and at the Albert Hall she has sung before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. Across the Atlantic she has appeared in concert halls from Vancouver to New York.
In the age of specialisation Beverley has dared to be versatile - no stranger to Radio 2,3, or 4 or to the television screen as singer and presenter. She is just as much ‘at home’ with Stephen Sondheim and Kurt Weill and slips comfortably into the classic standards of the 30’s and 40’s with Jazz Trio Kaleidoscope. Beverley has played Gertrude in “Noel and Getie” and created the role of Vesta Tilley in Caroline Gawn’s play “You can all love me”. Her first straight acting role was in the television film “Better Days” with Glyn Houston. In 1992, Beverley Humphreys was given the singular honour of being the first singer, in the history of Welsh Rugby, to step out onto the “Hallowed Turf” in the National Stadium, to lead 10’s of 1000’s of spectators in the field, and millions all over the world , in singing the Welsh National Anthem.
Beverley has written, and tours with, her one-woman shows “Marvellous Party” and “A Tribute to Ivor Novello”, and is currently presenting her own weekly music programme for BBC Radio Wales - “With Melody in Mind”. |
