Becker Ensemble Concert 8pm Friday 17th December 2004

THE GUILDHALL SANDWICH

The Becker with 'Cantate'

Cantate is a Thanet based chamber choir. It was formed in 1996 and since then the group has performed regularly in public under its Musical Director Edward Greenhalgh. At present Cantate consists of thirteen members enabling the group to perform a diverse musical repertoire. Cantate’s repertoire includes music from the Renaissance to the present day – both sacred and secular- and its concerts are characteristically eclectic. Such variety is a ‘trademark’ of the group, which is at home singing anything from Gregorian chant to songs from the shows! In addition, to concerts Cantate has performed at private functions as well as supporting local charities in fund raising work.

Edward Greenhalgh commenced his musical career as a chorister. He went on to study piano, organ and singing and in 1992 graduated from the University of Kent at Christchurch College with an honours degree in Music and Radio, Film & Television. In 1993 Edward also gained his teaching diploma. Since then he has performed and conducted widely for concerts, workshops and productions. In addition, to these commitments Edward has taught in a number of schools, as well as being a peripatetic instrumental teacher.
