| The
Becker Quartet have been
playing together since 1988 in the South East of England. Violins
John Perkins and George Simpson, Viola Jane Browne and Cello John
Cullis are all successful musicians with careers in leading orchestras
and bands across Europe. The name 'Becker' was taken as a tribute
to a fellow musician and violinist Lew Becker who died only
a few months before the quartet formed in 1988. Lew's love of music
and his joy at seeing chamber music performed live was an inspiration
to all who new him, and we believe he would have been very proud to
be associated with a very active chamber group. Although all four
quartet members are busy with orchestral, recording, teaching and
writing careers, they maintain an annual series of concerts in Sandwich
where they are 'Musicians in Residence'. These highly popular
concerts are regularly augmented by guest performers, some of whom
are listed on the performers page
in this site. The Becker also performs as a larger orchestra and again
two major concerts are given each year in St Mary's Church Sandwich
as part of their summer season. Other events include music festivals,
weddings and corporate functions. |
