| William
Kenchington was born in Wolverhampton. He took up the clarinet at
the age of fifteen, and within one year was studying with John Davies
at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In 1958 he played at the
World Fair in Brussels as a member of the Students Orchestra of Great
Britain. After playing for a short time with the D'Oyly-Carte, and
Sadler's Wells Orchestras, he went to study in the Vienna Academy
of Music with Professor Karl Osterreicher, Principal Clarinettist
with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. He has played at various times
with the BBC Welsh Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra,
BBC Midland Light Orchestra, and, for twelve years the Scottish National
Orchestra. Since 1979 William has been Professor of Clarinet at the
Royal Marines School of Music, living with his wife and three children
in Studdal. |
