George Simpson 2nd Violin			George is a Londoner, whose musical career started as a cornet player in a local brass band at the age of 10 years. His true love, the violin, became part of his life on joining the Royal Marines School of Music, at the age of fourteen, to study the instrument with Frank Whitford. In 1959 George became leader of the Staff Orchestra at the School of Music, working with Sir Vivian Dunn, the incumbent Principal Director of Music. In 1970 George attended the Royal Academy of Music, to study conducting with Maurice Miles (a fellow student on the same course being Simon Rattle), and the violin with Lionel Bentley. A further period as leader of the Staff Orchestra (combined with deputy conductor), this time working with Paul Neville, culminated in 1978 when George was appointed as professor of violin at the School of Music. For many years now George has been a prominent musician in the South East, where he works as a freelance musician.
