Ian Swatman
Clarinet
Ian Swatman studied at Christ Church College Canterbury followed by post-graduate study at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies at Goldsmiths College London. During this time he was a pupil of Jack Brymer with whom he performed a double concerto with in 1986. He has worked in a wide variety of musical fields including West End shows, The Surrey Chamber Orchestra, The London Festival Ballet Orchestra and The English Touring Orchestra with whom he toured Italy in 1988. With the ‘Spats Dillinger’ jazz ensemble Ian performed at festivals in France, Holland, Norway and made five appearances at the Cork International Jazz Festival. Locally, Ian has played with The Crowther Quintet, The Kent Concert Orchestra and The University of Kent Orchestra. As a teacher Ian has enjoyed considerable success with pupils having been members of the National Youth Orchestra and The National Youth Wind Orchestra. Ian is also woodwind coach on the IAPS Wind Band Courses.
