Robert
Douglas was educated at University College School, where he made his
first concert appearances both as a pianist and violinist. On leaving
school he studied music at The University of Southampton taking a
full and active part in the life of the music department. Post graduate
study for his MMus(Lond) followed at Trinity College of Music, London,
studying the piano with the renowned pianist John Bingham. In recent
years Robert has taken part in prestigious master classes with Nikolai
Demidenko, Graham Johnson and Roger Vignoles.
Robert made his London debut at the South Bank Purcell Room, taking
part in a premiere CD recording of music by Walter Leigh which was
a Šlso broadcast live on Classic FM. He has been a concerto soloist
on numerous occasions, most recently (January 1999) in performances
of Beethovens Piano Concerto No 1 and the Gershwin Piano Concerto.
He also works regularly as an accompanist and conductor, and other
areas of musical interest include working as a stage show Musical
Director and as an Organist. Robert currently combines all these activities
with the position of Professor of Piano at the Royal Marines School
of Music in Portsmouth, where he trains musicians for their future
employment in one of the five Royal Marines bands. When he finds time
for a life outside music he enjoys hill walking and playing golf ......badly! |
